As your child gets bigger and/or you want to do some more adventurous hiking you will want to think about buying a child backpack carrier. We've tried quite a few at our local sling library before settling on our Osprey Poco LT . It's a big investment so I've added some things to consider when deciding to buy one below based on our experience:
- How much head support do you need and will your child be napping in the carrier? Some come with a little "pillow" attachment for kids
- How much do you want to carry in addition to your child? Some come with very little extra storage and some come with quite a lot. It all just depends what you will be wanting it for.
- What is your budget? We found that the most budget friendly options are the LittleLife carriers
- How lightweight do you want it to be? Don't forget you will be also carrying your child who will increase in weight so get something you are able to manage.
- Do you need it to fold down compactly for ease of storage/travel?
- Do you want a sunshade or raincover? Some are included as standard and some have them able to purchase separately so worth adding up the total cost.
- Is it comfortable for you? It's worth trying to find a local sling library if you can. The one closest to us is great https://wyslinglibrary.com/ . This is also a handy website to find your nearest one https://www.carryingmatters.co.uk/sling-pages/
