How to bath a baby or toddler on holiday with no tub

When we first started going on holiday we always looked for a bath when looking at accommodation but we soon realised that this very often cut down our options. We now book the accommodation based on other factors and use other options instead of a bath when we are away. Here are some of the methods we've used along the way.

Sink bath

If your baby or child is small enough (or the bath big enough) this is a great option! We did this in Porto when O was 5 months old and again in Edinburgh when he was 8 months old. Just watch out for the tap - you can always cover it with a towel to help.

Have a shower if they are happy to

If your baby / child is happy to then just use the shower. If it's the baby just hold them while you shower, if if a child they can stand while you shower them. O hasn't been great with the shower so I've made sure to expose M to this quickly so he's happy to be in my arms in the shower.

Use the shower as a basin for a shallow bath

We did this most recently for the boys in Austria as the shower had quite a deep basin. We used a travel plug (see my packing list page for link) to keep the water in and they had their nightly bath in this.

Take an inflatable bath

We borrowed a friends bath to try this out and whilst it's a good option it's just one more bulky thing to take with you. If you're happy with any of the other options I'd do those first over this one.

Flannel wash

You could just skip a wash entirely but given how mucky my kids get (even just from eating) this really isn't an option. So the very least you can do is take a flannel and just pat them down in the bathroom to clean them.
