Wollaton Hall and Deer Park in Nottingham is the perfect destination for a family-friendly adventure. Getting There and Entry

  • By Car: Wollaton Hall is easily accessible by car, with plenty of parking available on-site.
  • By Public Transport: If you’re taking public transport, regular buses run from Nottingham city center to Wollaton Park, making it a convenient option for families without a car.
  • Entry: Entry to the Hall and Park is free but there is a parking charge. It cost us £6 for the day to park via the Ringo app for ease.

Things to Do:

1. Playgrounds

Wollaton Park features well-maintained playgrounds with swings, slides, and climbing frames that cater to different age groups. These areas are safe and surrounded by open space, allowing parents to keep an eye on their kids while enjoying the fresh air. We actually spent a good few hours in the main playground as you enter the park.

2. Botanical Gardens

For a more serene experience, take a walk through the beautifully landscaped gardens. The colorful flowers and exotic plants can be a great way to introduce children to the wonders of nature. The gardens also offer plenty of shaded areas, perfect for a break from the sun.

3. Deer Spotting

The park is home to a large herd of red and fallow deer that roam freely. Kids will love trying to spot these gentle creatures as they explore the open fields and woodlands. Just remember to keep a safe distance and bring binoculars for a closer look!

4. Lakeside Walk

Take a stroll around the lake, where children can feed the ducks, watch the swans glide by, and even spot fish swimming in the water. The path is flat and easy to navigate, making it perfect for little legs and strollers.

5. Natural History Museum

The hall houses Nottingham’s Natural History Museum, which is sure to fascinate children of all ages. With over 750,000 objects on display, from dinosaur fossils to stuffed animals, there’s plenty to spark curiosity. The interactive displays and hands-on exhibits make learning fun and engaging.

  • Christmas at Wollaton: In the winter, the hall is beautifully decorated for Christmas, with festive lights, a Christmas market, and special activities for children. The Christmas trail through the park is a must-see for families.

Eating at the Park

1. The Courtyard Café

Set within the courtyard of Wollaton Hall this offers indoor and outdoor seating options. The café offers a range of freshly made sandwiches, salads, soups, and baked goods. You’ll also find a selection of hot and cold drinks, including tea, coffee, and soft drinks.

Family-Friendly: The café offers a children’s menu with smaller portions and kid-friendly favorites like sandwiches and fruit snacks.

2. Wollaton 508 Café

Located next to the main playground, just a short walk from the hall - this place is focused on drinks and quick bites.

3. The Deli at Wollaton

The Deli is inside the main entrance area of Wollaton Hall with with a focus on artisanal products

4. Picnic in the Park

You can have a picnic anywhere in the park. For a more "formal" picnic you will find picnic benches dotted around.
